Temporary Post For Technorati Claim Token – HOWTO

This is off topic from what is normally covered on this site but I’ve received a lot of comments when I started to talk about the Technorati claim token process so I’ve decided to cover it here. When submitting your site to Technorati you must go through a claim token process to prove that you are the true owner of your blog. There seems to be some confusion around how exactly this is done.
After you submit your site Technorati will send you an email that will look something like this:
Thank you for submitting your blog claim on Technorati. Technorati will need to verify that you are an author of the site http://www.thenextbigtechthing.com by looking for a unique code. We have just assigned the claim token ZZFD189456B1DS to this claim. Please visit http://technorati.com/account/ for more details.
What you must do next is create a simple post on your blog with any title (ie. “Temporary Post – Please ignore”) and the body of the post containing your claim token (ZZFD189456B1DS for example). This post will be public facing but you’ll be able to remove it in a few minutes.
After that is complete follow the link http://technorati.com/account/. At that bottom of your account page click on the Check Claim button for your blog. This next page will then ask if you have already made the temporary post (which you have) so you can simply click the button at the bottom of that page to confirm. After a few minutes you should receive an email saying something like this:
Thank you for submitting your blog claim on Technorati. We have successfully crawled your blog and found the claim token, and your claim is now awaiting review.
You are now all set and can delete the temporary post from your blog.
This process is a bit cumbersome and I would like to see Technorati streamline it. Having said that I would still recommend that anyone with a blog should submit it to Technorati. It is a great community to share your content and help build your viewer base.
Please feel free to comment on this post with any questions that I may have not covered here.

I’m glad you are telling us what to do with the claim token, because I sure can’t find that info on the Technorati site — it’s not even included with the email sending me my token. But I see that your post is almost a year old, so I wonder if your directions are still up to date. Nonetheless, I will follow them and hope it works.

What an involved process for claiming my blog, with insufficient directions provided by Technorati!

Thank you. It took me a while to figure it out working with my blog but got it through. Very helpful

Thank you mate I needed that :)

Thank you! This is really helpful. Technorati really needs to revise their own instructions (or lack of). For instance, why does the last confirming message from them say “…and your claim is now awaiting review.”?? Review by whom? As you point out, by the time you receive that message, you’re essentially done.

I tried to search my Blog in Technorati Blog Directory, but couldn’t find it…Why?

Thank so much, this was a big help and now I am all set. Do you know how long usually Technocrati takes to process claims?

That was super helpful.  It’s not very easy to figure out on the website-they really need to specify the steps more clearly.

I see this post is from 2009. We are in 2012 and this problem at Technorati is still alive. I have tried to “claim” two of my blogs. Impossible to claim the more important for me, http://www.adresseip.com/blog/ . I have put the claim token on the blog and on the RSS, and I get this message:
“Unfortunately, Technorati encountered a problem reading your blog. Our
engineers are investigating and we will update your claim status as soon
    as we are able”
I thought it was because my site is in French but it’s not. I have claimed another of my blog, still in French, and I have had no problem ( http://bad-dogs.net ). I’ll try to post here as soon as I get a solution, it can be helpful for others.
    Thank you for this post.

I got the message from Technorati that “We have successfully crawled your blog and found the claim token, and your claim is now awaiting final review. You may now remove the claim token from your feed”.  I am beginning to wonder how long will it take before they complete their final review. My blog is http://forextradingskill.blogspot.com

    Thanks.

  • Anna_Myla

    Hi!
“We have successfully crawled your blog and found the claim token, and your claim is now awaiting final review..” so does it mean that if we receive a message like this, we should delete the claim and make another one until we get the message saying that we are officially authenticated and claimed?I have the same problem, I read in this comment thread and I discovered that there are a lot like me, even worse, waiting since November?!
