Temporary Post For Technorati Claim Token – HOWTO

This is off topic from what is normally covered on this site but I’ve received a lot of comments when I started to talk about the Technorati claim token process so I’ve decided to cover it here. When submitting your site to Technorati you must go through a claim token process to prove that you are the true owner of your blog. There seems to be some confusion around how exactly this is done.
After you submit your site Technorati will send you an email that will look something like this:
Thank you for submitting your blog claim on Technorati. Technorati will need to verify that you are an author of the site http://www.thenextbigtechthing.com by looking for a unique code. We have just assigned the claim token ZZFD189456B1DS to this claim. Please visit http://technorati.com/account/ for more details.
What you must do next is create a simple post on your blog with any title (ie. “Temporary Post – Please ignore”) and the body of the post containing your claim token (ZZFD189456B1DS for example). This post will be public facing but you’ll be able to remove it in a few minutes.
After that is complete follow the link http://technorati.com/account/. At that bottom of your account page click on the Check Claim button for your blog. This next page will then ask if you have already made the temporary post (which you have) so you can simply click the button at the bottom of that page to confirm. After a few minutes you should receive an email saying something like this:
Thank you for submitting your blog claim on Technorati. We have successfully crawled your blog and found the claim token, and your claim is now awaiting review.
You are now all set and can delete the temporary post from your blog.
This process is a bit cumbersome and I would like to see Technorati streamline it. Having said that I would still recommend that anyone with a blog should submit it to Technorati. It is a great community to share your content and help build your viewer base.
Please feel free to comment on this post with any questions that I may have not covered here.

I did it, and I also got this:

Nov 23, 2009. We have successfully crawled your blog and found the claim token, and your claim is now awaiting review.

This was 10 days ago :> What now? http://technorati.com/blogs/www.mypage.com doesn’t exist. Did technorati forget me or do I have to do something else in order to get my blog listed?

Also have the same questions. My claim is now awaiting review – since November 25. I was wondering how long does it take for the review.

Claim Status – “We have successfully crawled your blog and found the claim token, and your claim is now awaiting review.”

This at least tells you that your site is in the queue waiting to be processed. At times Technorati has a large backlog of claims to process and the wait time can be considerable (1 month or more).

I can only suggest that you may want to contact them via Twitter (@technorati) or Get Satisfaction (http://getsatisfaction.com/technorati) to find out how much longer it may take for your site to be processed.

I am still waiting for review, Is technorati team personally review it or it is automated. Is it possible that they will not approve my post.

To the best of my knowledge there is a manual review process which checks for sites built for pure spam purposes.

It appears that Technorati is aware of this issue and is working to resolve it. This was posted by a Technorati employee November 16th, 2009 about this issue:
“Yes, it is taking weeks (> month for some) to process claims, and no, we don’t think that’s acceptable. I expect things will getter noticeably better over the next few weeks, but it may be a bit longer before the process is really working smoothlly.”

There is a growing viral backlash to the Technorati review process. I am among those impacted by their tremendous poor customer service. Amazingly, the lesser-known blog catalog reviewed my claim, and added my blog within 2 business days.

    @Technorati: Customer service still matters.

  • http://thenextbigtechthing.com Charles

This article has recently been receiving a considerable amount of traffic because of the review process delays. From what I've head it seems that Technorati is still not processing any new blogs. As soon as I hear that they have started processing new blogs I will get a new post up to let all the readers know.

From your experiences with blogcatalog (http://www.blogcatalog.com/) would you recommend that other readers submit their sites to it? Have you been seeing any traffic coming from blogcatalog since you've submitted your site?

  • http://www.milhealthsdirectory.net/ Milhealth

Thanks for this! Technorati should refer to your post for instructions to this frustrating exercise. Happy New Year!

  • http://thenextbigtechthing.com Charles

Thanks for your support. Trust me if Technorati would allow me I would do work for them for free as a part time site reviewer.

  • http://tequinox.wordpress.com/ Mike Daicoff

    Hey Charles,
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I defintely recommend Blogcatalog. Effectively, they stated they would crawl my blog within 48 hours, and that was over the Thanksgiving Holiday. They met their target and my blog posts were being published with their service within the two-day window. While I'm not a huge community member at Blogcatalog, I've noticed that some traffic is generated from their service (but make sure you use relevant and meaningful tags, and for even better results, join communities, etc).

I suppose the only downside with Blogcatalog is that the subscriber base is much smaller than Technorati. Still, they say they provide a service, and actually fulfill that commitment. A novel idea that Technorati might want to consider.

  • http://thenextbigtechthing.com Charles

Technorati is now processing new blogs once again. I've just received the following:

Congratulations, your claim is now complete! Please allow 24 to 48 hours for Authority and recent posts to begin showing for your site now that it has been successfully claimed.

  • http://hattierogers.wordpress.com/ Hattie

How long is it likely to take before they review it??

  • http://thenextbigtechthing.com Charles

There are 2 sites that I submitted about 2 months ago. Out of the 2 one has been approved and the other is still pending. Two months is clearly a long time but at least they are now processing the queue.

What are you experiences? How long have you been waiting for?

  • http://tatterscoops.com/ Maureen

I followed this after the confusing no explanation on the email I got from Technorati or on their website but when I checked my account all I got is “We are evaluating your claim. It may take quite some time for evaluation. ” and that's it.

  • http://thenextbigtechthing.com Charles

Maureen, that's how a lot of people are finding this post. From what I've heard there is still a large backlog of sites they are processing. It may take some time to see anything happen for your site.

Shoot me an update and let me know how long it took to get your site up. I am sure other reader are curious also.

  • http://twitter.com/braddahmike Michael Jensen

Just registered our blog as well…do you just keep that verification code on your blog for that long? Looks kinda silly. Anyway around that? Appreciate the advice.

  • http://thenextbigtechthing.com Charles

You can remove the verification code when your site has the status:
We have successfully crawled your blog and found the claim token, and your claim is now awaiting review.

Then you just play the waiting game… Does that help?

  • http://twitter.com/braddahmike Michael Jensen

    Thanks…I'll keep a look out!

  • http://anglopolish.com/ dani

So how long have You been waiting till your blog in technorati was claimed?

  • http://thenextbigtechthing.com Charles

I have personal had more than one blog wait (and still waiting) for more than 2 months.

Another blog that I've submitted has been approved in less than one month.

  • http://tatterscoops.com/ Maureen

Hi, I finally got an email from technorati saying “Thank you for submitting your blog claim on Technorati. We have successfully crawled your blog and found the claim token, and your claim is now awaiting review” so is it ok for me to remove the post with the token number now? Thanks for your help! :)

  • http://thenextbigtechthing.com Charles

No problem Maureen, it seems that I've been appointed unofficial Technorati support because of this post.

Yes, that means that you can remove it and now you just have to wait to be approved by Technorati.

  • http://tatterscoops.com/ Maureen

And I think you're doing a much better job than them! Thanks for all your help! Really appreciate it.

  • http://www.booksexy.wordpress.com/ tolmsted

Thanks so much for this post, and being so great about answering everyone's questions. I've been only waiting a week…so I guess I'll need to learn the art of patience!

  • http://doit2us.blogspot.com/ Mc

Now I know, compared with the other, my “waiting time” for technorati evaluation claim is nothing… I've just been 2 days long..
At least I am not wonder “when?” anymore..
    Thanks Charles..

  • http://www.speedyvehicles.in/ Sagar

Come On Technorati my site http://www.speedyvehicles.in is still awaiting review from te last 1 month.

  • http://www.l337projects.com/ D.esigner

I must say I'm glad that you answered this question. Technorati doesn't do a terribly good job of explaining a simple way of utilizing the token. Thanks, I appreciate it!

i have add my blog and post claim token, but there's the messages: “Unfortunately, we encountered a problem reading your blog. Our engineers are investigating and we will update your claim status as soon as we are able. “

  • shiruko99

    thank you!

  • http://www.freedomoffetish.com/ Raven

You made this extremely simple. Thank you! You may want to note that the confirmation message you receive can differ–for example I got the following one: “We are evaluating your claim. It may take quite some time for evaluation.”

Thanks for this – I was looking all over Technorati for what I was supposed to do with the token – 10 seconds in Google found your article and I'm done. Don't know why Technorati is being so user unfriendly with the process.

thanks for your help. It was simple, but i could not find any explanation on technorati.
I thought it to add it like google analytics or like a meta tag.

  • Tmueller

I submitted 2 blogs to technarati in 2008 and they are still are not included. They are not fly by night blogs, but ones with a team of contributing writers, posting every week. I just learned that they have a token verification- which was poorly explained. I can't leave a public post on our blog as a blank page with a token though- that's too unprofessional and there are too many readers who would see that. Is that really the only way to submit a blog to Technarati? For those interested, one of the blogs is: http://www.caslab.com/News/

I’m glad you are telling us what to do with the claim token, because I sure can’t find that info on the Technorati site — it’s not even included with the email sending me my token. But I see that your post is almost a year old, so I wonder if your directions are still up to date. Nonetheless, I will follow them and hope it works.

What an involved process for claiming my blog, with insufficient directions provided by Technorati!

Thank you mate I needed that :)

Thank you! This is really helpful. Technorati really needs to revise their own instructions (or lack of). For instance, why does the last confirming message from them say “…and your claim is now awaiting review.”?? Review by whom? As you point out, by the time you receive that message, you’re essentially done.
