Google Reader adds Magic Sort and RSS fans everywhere rejoice
For any Google Reader fans who have not yet tried the magic sort I recommend you check this out as soon as possible. Google has recently added a Magic sort feature to Google Reader and it's for a lack of better terms.... magical.
Think Digg + Google Reader in one... when viewing any feeds or groups of feeds you can now sort by magic. This will allow the most popular stories to come to the top.
Staying up on your most active feeds can be an arduous process but this new feature makes it much easier. Using Magic sort will enable you stay current on the most interesting posts without having to read each feed one-by-one.
Try it today and you won't be disappointed.
Temporary Post For Technorati Claim Token – HOWTO
This is off topic from what is normally covered on this site but I've received a lot of comments when I started to talk about the Technorati claim token process so I've decided to cover it here. When submitting your site to Technorati you must go through a claim token process to prove that you are the true owner of your blog. There seems to be some confusion around how exactly this is done.
After you submit your site Technorati will send you an email that will look something like this:
Thank you for submitting your blog claim on Technorati. Technorati will need to verify that you are an author of the site http://www.thenextbigtechthing.com by looking for a unique code. We have just assigned the claim token ZZFD189456B1DS to this claim. Please visit http://technorati.com/account/ for more details.
What you must do next is create a simple post on your blog with any title (ie. "Temporary Post - Please ignore") and the body of the post containing your claim token (ZZFD189456B1DS for example). This post will be public facing but you'll be able to remove it in a few minutes.
After that is complete follow the link http://technorati.com/account/. At that bottom of your account page click on the Check Claim button for your blog. This next page will then ask if you have already made the temporary post (which you have) so you can simply click the button at the bottom of that page to confirm. After a few minutes you should receive an email saying something like this:
Thank you for submitting your blog claim on Technorati. We have successfully crawled your blog and found the claim token, and your claim is now awaiting review.
You are now all set and can delete the temporary post from your blog.
This process is a bit cumbersome and I would like to see Technorati streamline it. Having said that I would still recommend that anyone with a blog should submit it to Technorati. It is a great community to share your content and help build your viewer base.
Please feel free to comment on this post with any questions that I may have not covered here.
Streamline, automate and batch your blogging
Write on a Sunday... Publish on a Thursday is a great blogging model to go by.
Many times when people start to blog it goes something like this... They come out the gate strong, pump out a bunch of posts all at once, don't have time for the next week or 2 to write a post, then they feel bad about not posting for so long and eventually they quit blogging. Instead of being one of these people try the following instead.
When inspiration strikes and you have time to pump out a handful of posts do not publish them right away. Try to instead use the feature that lets you schedule the posts to be published in the future (WordPress and many other blogging tools have this). Stagger the posting to be published over the next week or two. Now over the next 2 weeks you will be publishing blog posts even when you are not blogging.
If you have time to write some additional posts in the next 2 weeks... great! Just add them to the queue. Do not violate this rule unless you are writing 1 or two posts that are about very time sensitive real-time subjects.
If you have wanted to start a blog there is no time like the present... start today.
