Microsoft Silverlight VS Adobe Air – Survey Results

The following are the results from the survey on would you rather use a UI built in Microsoft Silverlight or Adobe Air.  Although Silverlight made a showing the results are obvious that users still overwhelmingly prefer to use Adobe products.

The next question would be - Can most users tell what software the UI they are using is built in? If not then why would they care (other than having to initially install the plugin)? Does this effect your decision on what technology you will build your next project in?

Would you prefer to use visualizations built with Microsoft Silverlight or Adobe Air?

Microsoft Silverlight 8.03%
Adobe Air 76.78%
Either one is fine 12.50%
I would rather not use either 2.67%

  • David, that's an excellent point.

    This would make me ask the question - Can most users tell what software the UI they are using is built in? I am willing to bet the answer is No for consumer software. Developers on the other hand tend to care much more but I believe that this may be less based on fact and more because of a bias of a certain technology.

    Theories aside, I believe it would be a fascinating test to perform.
  • The conclusion if flawed. The results show that 77% have developed in AIR and 77% prefer AIR. It is highly likely that there is a correlation between developing AIR products and wanting to use AIR products. It is unlikely that users - unless they are MS haters - could care less which technology an application is built on.
